Need Catfish I need to get some catfish for stocking. I have several ponds on my property. One of them was a good bluegill pond until someone I allowed to fish there dumped some shad into it. The bluegill have disappeared and the shad number in the millions.
I considered killing it off and restocking but I don't like that option because it will eliminate my crayfish population. There is another reason. I have another bluegill pond. I don't have a catfish pond but I now possess a great food source for one.
I can buy the stocking fish. But where is the fun in that? Anyone who fishes Northwestern Indiana that can tell me about a current hot spot would be doing me a favor.

I'm having 125 channel cats delivered at the end of this month in the 9 to 12 inch size. The delivered cost comes out to about $250 or about $2 a cat. This pond will be interesting next year at this time, but in two years, it'll just be fun.

Why dont you throw a net & bag the shad up & sell them to a bait shop.make couple of bucks since you have so manyin your pond.

Already did that. Not interested in selling bait. I have money. I want catfish.

Already threw it to buy catfish. They were delivered today. I ordered 125 of the 9 to 12 inch variety. I got about 150 ranging from 8 inches to about 14 inches. Awesome! We dumped them in to the pond in buckets. It took about five minutes before we saw them striking the shad. We took some dog food dry pellets and threw it onto the water. The shad started working on the pellets and the cats worked the shad. It was great to watch.
The guy who delivered them gave me a catalogue of all the fish they hatch and a better price (by quite a bit) than the way I ordered them. I went through a dealer. Bad idea. I didn't get burned too bad but I would have saved about forty bucks ordering direct from him. He is from Cincinnatti, and he's a 'good ole boy'. He saw some floating two liter bottles in the pond and immediately asked if they were snapping turtle lines - bright boy. He liked my pond since it is a series of channels with roots growing into it. He said it looked perfect to him. I said it looked perfect to me too but I was still going to put in more tubes for them to breed.
He said he loved Indiana because it was easy to get where you were going but once you got there it was wild and untamed. You get a half mile off the road and you have no idea where you are. Yeah, I love Indiana too. Don't walk off the road if you don't know where you're going. You might run into me.
Yeehah! I'm going to have big cats in a few years. In the mean time I'll fish Hudson lake for the bad boys. Luck to all! Kick their butts. Remember, a catfish is two slabs of meat with a head that doesn't give up easy. He's a tough sumbitch, but he's worth the trouble. Thank God, he's delicious!
